Abstract:
A short-range order of liquid ternary Al62Cu25.5TM12.5 (TM = Mn, Ni, Fe) alloys was investigated by X-ray diffraction and reverse Monte Carlo simulation. The causes of the shoulder on second maximum and the prepeak on the structure factors were discussed. The prepeak is caused by chemical short-range order (CSRO) in the liquid alloys leading to the formation of medium range order between TM atoms. The shoulder is realised due to the presence of the polytetrahedral order (PTO). The temperature evolution and correlation between the CSRO and the PTO has been considered. A comparative analysis of the short-range order of the liquid ternary alloys was realised and the influence of Mn, Fe, Ni additives on the structure of the liquid binary Al60Cu40 alloy was discussed.
